A spirited performance saw Wivenhoe come off second best in a top vs second place clash. A far from ideal start as Joe McKracken got a nasty eye injury early on but with no subs he was patched up and sent back out. Witham scored early in the first half after a great finish from just outside the box and looked the more dangerous of the two teams. Wivenhoe defended well and started to create opportunities for themselves with the skill of Lewis Haughton and determination of Sam Barton but couldnt find the net so it remained 1-0 at H/T.
With no subs to make and players picking up knocks it would prove a tough task but the Dragons put up a good fight and were unfortunate when Same Barton hit the bar after some great build up play. Sadly for the home side it wasnt to be and we were 2-0 down after a penalty was awarded and dispatched.
The result saw Witham Town overtake the home side to go top of the table, but Manager Jason Savage said "there was a feeling of pride in the performance and given things against us we gave a good account of ourselves to the degree that against other teams it may have been enough to secure something from the game".
