After the previous midweek defeat to Halstead it was important to bounce back straight away so not ideal when you find out half the team are unavailable (for a multitude of reasons) and you have to go with a basic 11 (three of who are just coming back from long lay offs). Given our league position (being top) this caused a few raised eyebrows amongst the referee and opposition when they heard the news and no doubt bouyed their confidence they could get something themselves. Things got even better for the away side when in the warm up Joel Shurvington pulled up.
However once the game got underway it was Wivenhoe who had the better of the game but failed to convert any of the chances they created as the woodwork was hit twice. Felixstowe also caused a few problems at the other end and were also cursing their luck at not taking the lead as Carl Oliver made a great recovery save (after his initial mistake). H/T 0-0
The second half started and Wivenhoe seemed to be in control again without really threatening the home sides goal and it was Felixstowe who took the lead. Despite his efforts Joel was now a passenger and with fitness taking its toll (on bodies and minds) there was going to be no way back and a second with a tidy finish and third came (via the penalty spot) to wrap things up.
Alot of frustration but no complaints about the result.
