Despite the disappointment at Thetford, Wivenhoe Town Reserves completed a successful season, by winning promotion to the reserve premier division.
Elliot Ringe returned between the sticks as Wivenhoe reverted back to a back four, with Matt griffin joining last weeks back three of Adam Frost, Ben Fowler and Jake Hearn. Dan Morgan and Michael Schofield remained in the centre of midfield and were flanked by Joe Heron and Matt Grove. Ollie O'Hare returned to lead the line.
Knowing three points would secure second place the boys warmed up professionally and started the game playing attacking football. So much so that within thirteen minutes Michael Schofield opened the scoring as Ollie O'Hare bullied the Newmarket back line before squaring to Schofield who scored from six yards out.
The effort and tempo died down for ten minutes after that, Newmarket were unfortunate not to win a penalty kick after a foul in the area, their luck was out as a player reprinted the grass red as his nose flowed of blood. Elliot Ringe was called into action in this period as he thwarted a Newmarket effort as the dragons failed to clear their lines.
The tempo then regained pace and the blues went in 2-0 up at the break as Ollie O'Hare constant bullying paid dividends as he netted after he collected and over hit free kick from Adam Frost. He took on several players before dispatching his effort into the corner of the net.
HT Wivenhoe 2-0 Newmarket
Wivenhoe were aware that the youthful Newmarket side could not play against their slick football and planned to go out and play attacking and attractive football. It took them a while to get going however but that man Schofield got them another goal to propel the dragons into action once more. A free kick was awarded to wivenhoe in their own half taking the free kick I the opposition half the young Newmarket side spent more time complaining at the official than defending and O'Hare unselfishly squared to Schofield as he levelled with Lewis Blanchett as leading goal scorer. The Newmarket players continued to protest and only received a caution for their doing.
Jason Savage made changes as Joe Steel replaced Adam Frost, Ray Catchpole replacing Luke Goldie-McSorley and Ryan Gooch replacing Joe Heron.
Wivenhoe continued to play football, Ryan Gooch attempting several speculative efforts which failed to result in a goal. It was newmarket who got a goal back next as Ollie O'Hare was wrongly adjudged to be offside by a linesman clearly attempting to get one over the blues after their third goal. Newmarket went down the other end minutes later as their player manager elegantly lobbed Elliot Ringe.
The blues confirmed second place with five minutes to play and Michael Schofield confirmed his status as Reserve Team top goal scorer as he completed his hatrick.
