Wivenhoe go top of the Reserve Division One after a comfortable victory in Suffolk.

Wivenhoe Town Res XI: Cameron Tarr, Adam Frost, Ben Fowler (c), Jake Hearn, Tom Moore, Dan Morgan, Michael Schofield, Joe Steel, Ray Catchpole (Josh Day 75), Lewis Blanchett, Ollie O'Hare (Ben Millard 60).

With a depleted first team squad the reserves faced a knock on effect missing no more than six players from the squad that beat Newmarket fourteen days previously. Goalkeeper Cameron Tarr signed on Thursday night replacing Elliot Ringe who made the step up to the first team, a shuffle in the back four saw Adam Frost go from left back to right back, Jake Hearn accompany Ben Fowler in the centre of defence as Tom Moore was welcomed back into the squad coming in at left back. Luke Goldie-McSorley was unavailable he was replaced by Ray Catchpole who had also been missing for the past few weeks. Jack Harrington returned to first team action leaving Ollie O'Hare to lead the line.

Attacking the clubhouse in the first half as the night drew in, both teams enjoyed an equal share of possession especially on the flanks. Woodbridge looked most dangerous on the right hand side delivering several crosses aimed at a tall front line. Lewis Blanchett and Michael Schofield worked tirelessly in the centre of midfield using their creative ability to carve open chances for Ollie O'Hare, Joe Steel and Ray Catchpole.

The breakthrough came when a shot saved by the Woodbridge goalkeeper was followed up by Joe Steel at the far post. Joe has the scoring feeling at the moment and long may that continue. Woodbridge would have felt disappointed to come in at half time a goal down however after they had a goal harshly disallowed for a foul on Cameron Tarr after a looping free kick from the right hand side.

HT- Woodbridge Town Res. 0-1 Wivenhoe Town Res.

Surprise, Surprise. Wivenhoe came out in the second half like a different team. This time converting the chances they were making. Firstly Michael Schofield found the corner of the net to double the Dragon's advantage, with his second coming soon after. The second will be a contender for goal of the season come May as he curled the ball with his instep in the far right hand corner, hitting the crossbar and in. The two Schofield goals sandwiched a Woodbridge goal which came from a poor back pass from Ben Fowler, which gave Cameron Tarr a difficult task of clearing. Tarr played the ball the to Woodbridge central midfielder who elegantly lobbed Tarr to make it 2-1.

The game then began to dampen. Ben Millard who had replaced Ollie O'Hare in between Michael Schofield's goals worked tirelessly up front creating several chances for himself and the midfield. One of these midfielders once again increased the blues lead Lewis Blanchett scoring his fifth goal for the season. Shortly after he got his sixth. Referee Raymond Firman played a great advantage after a late and dangerous challenge on Dan Morgan. The advantage saw Lewis Blanchett weave through the understandably tired legs of the Woodbridge defence and finished to give Wivenhoe a four goal advantage. The foul on Morgan left him out of the game with no more than two minutes remaining. With the final substitute Josh Day coming on for Ray Catchpole fifteen minutes prior to the incident Wivenhoe were forced to play out the game with ten men. Keeping nine men behind the ball, aiming to keep it compact for the last couple of minutes Woodbridge switched the ball from right to left. The tricky Woodbridge left midfielder managed to weave his way through a crowd of players and get a shot away which deflected off of the boot of Jake Hearn into the net.

FT- Woodbridge Town Res 2-5 Wivenhoe Town Res.

Wivenhoe will be pleased considering the amount of absentees and the make shift squad. Cameron Tarr a man of the match performance in goal making two or three extremely important saves of which could have resulted in a closer game had he not have saved them.
