After last weeks disappointing 5-1 defeat to Diss Town Reserves, the Dragons were out for revenge against the Tangerines again. In front of the watching Saffron Walden Reserves management, the Dragons lined up:
1) Elliot Ringe, 2) Matt Grove, 3) Jake Hearn, 4) Dan Morgan, 5) Ben Fowler (c), 6) Liam Dadds, 7) Joe Steel (14) Tapiwanashe Madugu, 80), 8) Ryan Gooch, 9) Oliver O'Hare (12) Josh Day, 85) 10)Michael Schofield, 11) Ray Catchpole. Unused: 15) Adam Frost
Wivenhoe kicked off the game as they did last week, spreading the ball wide allowing Catchpole and Steel to attack. The possession however failing to turn into shots at goal. Diss thought they had broken the deadlock when a fine passing move was finished from twelve yards out, however the player, playing the final pass before the shot was adjudged to have been offside. A let off for Wivenhoe who conceded five goals last week from five mistakes. It was the Dragon's however who did take the lead Oliver O'Hare's tenacious afternoon started well as he assisted Michael Schofield. O'Hare's bustling run in the box was met by Diss defenders afraid to make a tackle so they didn't concede a penalty. He found the feet of Schofield who scraped the ball into the bottom corner. A goal on O'Hare's man of the match afternoon was all that he deserved another mazing run once again scared the Diss defence and when presented with a one on one situation O'Hare had the confidence to strike home a second for the blues. As has been the case this season Wivenhoe slacked towards the end of the first half but managed to go in at the break without conceding.
HT Wivenhoe 2-0 Diss
The tables had certainly turned from last week. This week Wivenhoe were two goals ahead and it was Jason Savage's turn to say that Diss didn't want it. Credit to Diss they came out ten times better than Wivenhoe seven days before and battled harder, so much so they got a goal midway through the second period. A long ball evaded Dan Morgan's grasp and was missed by both Fowler and Dadd's the Diss centre forward rounded Ringe as he did last week to make the score 2-1. Wivenhoe battered the woodwork at the other end, Steel and Schofield hitting the bar and the Diss goalkeeper keeping them in the game with impressive stops from Catchpole. Diss threw the kitchen sink at the Dragons in the last fifteen minutes, but with Hearn, Fowler, Dadds and Morgan making important defensive headers and Ringe commanding his box there was no way through.
