Dragons Reserves with another convincing win against Newmarket.

Wivenhoe knew that showing teams a lack of respect can result in disaster, as they learnt against Long Melford two weeks ago. Ollie O'Hare was out after injuring himself in training., Marcus Spindler was called up to the first team and Jake Hearn was unavailable. Michael Schofield replaced Spindler in the centre of midfield and Adam Frost slotted in at left back. Wivenhoe were pleased to see Ben Millard return after months of unavailability through work.

Wearing the away colours of red shirts, black shorts and black socks Wivenhoe began where they left off against Stowmarket seven days ago playing attractive attacking football which Newmarket could not deal with. After relentless pressure on the jockey's defence Joe Steel opened the scoring. Great work from Lewis Blanchett, he played the ball back to Adam Frost who hooked the ball with his weak left foot for Jack Harrington to run on to. Harrington played a low cross which was missed by the Newmarket defender Joe Steel took advantage at the far post.

With half an hour gone Newmarket were allowed to get a hold of the ball and won a penalty with five minutes to go after a rash tackle by Sam Sadler. The Newmarket striker struck the ball with conviction sending Elliot Ringe the wrong way.

HT Newmarket 1-1 Wivenhoe

The half time score felt more like the team were losing after a strong half an hour performance. A learning point that complacency can and will cost you. The Dragons started well again enjoying a long spell of possession and they were rewarded for their dominance as Garry Burdett scored from a Joe Steel corner.

If I was tweeting the score I would have missed Wivenhoe's third as Luke Goldie-McSorley scored almost instantly to make it 3-1.

Michael Schofield showed his undoubted skill and combined with a positive mental attitude scored the goal of the game as he picked the ball up on the left hand side and weaved his way into a shooting position on the right hand side. He unleashed a fierce shot into the top left hand corner to give the boys in red a three goal advantage.

There was still time for some controversy. A newmarket was rightly disallowed by Dan Morgan acting as the Wivenhoe club linesman. From the resulting free kick man of the match Michael Schofield received the ball and was the victim of several fouls from the Newmarket midfield. Bizarrely he conceded a free kick and was then booked for dissent. One would say a sympathy decision following the disallowing of a home team goal. The Newmarket right back was clearly in a rush to get play restarted from a throw in so much so that he picked it up before the ball had even gone out! Many Newmarket players clearly had a better view of the line than the linesman and their dissent also found themselves a booking.
