Wivenhoe's starting team saw three changes. Gabe Kerr, Hadley Quattrucci and Ben Gallifant all started for the first time, Taylor Warden and Tom Ayton were on the bench. Fin Hughes was serving his one match suspension.
The visitors started quickly, forcing Gabe Pateman into an early save but it was Wivenhoe who created most of the first halves clear opportunities. Hadley Quattrucci nearly marked his first start with a goal, shooting over the bar after a corner had been delivered into the box. Gabe Kerr then did give Wivenhoe the lead, chasing down a long ball, he forced the keeper into a really poor kick who simply landed in front of Kerr, who was through on goal and able to tap in from close range. Wivenhoe probably should have been further in front before the break, Mitch Goddard had two headers wide, Alfie Eldridge also headed wide and Harry Miller lobbed the ball over when well placed to beat the keeper.
Those and early first half missed chances would prove costly, the best being a Harry Miller shot when well placed which he put past the post. The visitors then had a spell which saw them score twice. First a curling shot found the corner of Pateman's goal. Then Pateman conceded a penalty when he was second to the ball. The incident saw Pateman substituted off with an an injury, but his replacement between the sticks, Ben Gallifant, could do nothing to prevent a well taken penalty finding the back of the net.
The Dragons had chances to level but were unable to do so., the best being an Alfie Eldridge miss-hit a shot from a low cross and then Taylor Warden being played through on the keeper but lifted the ball into the goalie's hands.
Wivenhoe are back in home action on Tuesday evening in the Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup, Kick off 19:45 at the Taylor Wimpey Stadium.
