Player news ahead of the new season - Last updated 08/08/2022

Gary Monti and his coaching team have been working to retain last season's squad and add new players ahead of the 2022/23 season.

New Signings!

Callum McGlinchey – Forward – Callum is a young 6ft 5in Striker with lots of potential. The Wivenhoe Management are really looking forward to seeing him progress next season and giving the Dragons a different type of option in attack.

Kevin Coyle - Midfielder / Defender - Well known on the local non-league scene, spent much of his playing career at FC Clacton where is the club's record goal scorer and appearance maker. Had a brief spell at Wivenhoe Town in the 2008/09 season. Coyle has generally played as a defender or central midfielder in recent seasons.

Darren Mills – Forward – An exciting signing for the Club. Mills has vast experienced at a much higher level having played at Brightlingsea Regent, Leiston, Maldon & Tiptree and Coggeshall Town. A player who has lots of quality and will really bring on the younger players at the Club.

Matt Brand-Barker - Goalkeeper - A keeper that Gary Monti knows very well having previously managed him at Heybridge Swifts. More recently he has been with Colney Heath. Matt is a very brave keeper with good feet and will add great competition for the No 1 spot this season.

Spencer Earthy – Midfielder – A young midfielder who joined the club in the Summer of 2022 from Bishop’s Stortford. Will be aiming to establish himself as a regular in the Wivenhoe Town midfield.

Three players also return to the Dragons this season after spells away from the club.

George Hart - Forward – Returns to Wivenhoe Town after a brief spell at Burnham Ramblers, Hart played 18 times for the Dragons last season scoring six goals. In total he has made 47 appearances for Wivenhoe scoring 15 goals. A favouritewith the Dragons supporters due to his quality on the ball and goal threat.

John Thain – Midfielder – Returns to Wivenhoe Town after spending most of last season with Chelmsford City Reserves. Thain is a free kick specialist who really offers a goal threat from dead ball situations. The Management will be looking to push John on more this season and see his full potential. He previously made 8 appearances scoring three goals.

Connor Smith – Defender – A tall and composed centre back. Smith returns to Wivenhoe after a season with AFC Sudbury. Has played 29 games for Wivenhoe, scoring three goals.

Ryan Culleton - Defender - 10 games, 1 goal.
Mike Fitzgibbon - Defender - 52 games, 6 goals.
Billy Coe - Defender / Midfielder - 38 games, 4 goals.
Ross James - Defender / Midfielder - 56 games, 13 goals.
Joe Maybanks - Midfielder - 13 games, 4 goals.
Lewis Brennan - Midfielder - 38 games, 0 goals.
Ben Gallifant - Midfielder - 126 games, 3 goals.
Tom Ashworth - Midfielder - 29 games, 10 goals

Several players have also progressed from Wivenhoe Town's Youth and Reserve system, impressing in pre-season and making their debuts in the season opener.
