The new season gets under way on the 4th August with a home game against Wormley Rovers at the GMP Plant Hire Stadium. It will be new manager James Meadows' first competitive game in charge of the Dragons. Ahead of the match, he has confirmed the following players, who will be familiar to Dragons' supporters, have signed for Wivenhoe Town.
Billy Latto returns to Wivenhoe Town having left to join Holland last season shortly after the arrival of Chris Hudson. Billy has mostly played as a full back or winger whilst at Wivenhoe Town. Latto is just one short of 50 appearances for the Dragons, he has scored 4 goals.
Zak Johnson is another to have re-joined the club after leaving during last season. The young full back impressed last season with his ability to get forward, causing opposition sides problems with his pace and ability to carry the ball. He has made 27 Wivenhoe appearances.
Attacking pair Aaron Donaldson and Myles Passley have signed on again for the 2018 / 19 season. Aaron and Myles both joined last season in the closing months of the season and in a struggling side, impressed Wivenhoe supporters with their ability and eye for a goal. Passley played 14 games and scored twice. Donaldson played seven games and scored twice.
Goalkeepers Aaron Reid and Liam Daniels have signed for the club. Both players have had several spells at Wivenhoe Town and will compete for the number one spot this season. Reid has played 35 times for Wivenhoe Town, Daniels has made 9 appearances.
Young players Jack Cross and Adam Simmonds have both signed after making their débuts for the Dragons towards the end of last season. Simmonds has made 7 appearances, mostly in midfield. Whilst Cross played twice in defence.
Three other players, who were with the squad last season but will be hoping to make more of an impact under the new management team have also re-signed. Jeffrey Ashong signed towards the end of last season, he made five appearances. He is a winger with the pace and ability to cause problems for the opposition full backs. Lewis Webster is a midfielder or forward who includes Colchester United Youth in his playing history. He only featured for the Reserves last season and briefly left to join Little Oakley. Ollie O’Hare has been prolific as a forward for Wivenhoe Town Reserves but he will be aiming to become a first team regular. He has played 16 times for the first team, often in wide positions.
Wivenhoe Town are looking to recruit an FA qualified coach (level 1 and 2) to work with our senior squad and manager James Meadows.
