Jeff has played a major part of Wivenhoe Town for many years. This has especially been the case over the past two seasons as Manager of our Under 23’s. He has had an important role in helping several players progress and make their debuts for the First Team becoming established members of the squad.
Jeff will be assisted by Adam Bethell and Elliott McIvor-Jones who have both been a part of Jeff’s U23's management team.
On his appointment, Jeff said:
"Wivenhoe Town has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. I watched my father play for the club in the early ’70s and then later serve nearly two decades as club president. I saw the clubhouse and ground being built, played in the youth teams, made my way into the reserves at 16, and was fortunate enough to represent the first team as well.
As life went on and work commitments made long-distance travel tough, I continued playing more locally with brilliant clubs like Alresford Colne Rangers, Gas Recreation, and a fantastic veterans side—sharing great seasons with some brilliant local players.
Over the past 13 seasons, I’ve managed a Dragons team from Age 6 through to their first year at U18, where they finished with a league and cup double. For the past four years, I’ve also been with the Dragons Reserves/U23s—two as assistant, and the last two as manager.
About 14 years ago, the club laid out a vision to create a pathway for local youth players to reach the first team. Today, we’re seeing the results of that vision—lads in the U23s and First Team who’ve worn the Wivenhoe Town shirt since they were six. We’re also proud to welcome players from other local youth clubs that don’t yet have an adult pathway. The spirit among this group is brilliant—they’re mates, not just teammates.
So what’s the vision now?
We already have some real quality in the first team, and the goal is to blend that experience with the energy and potential of our younger players. Of course, results matter—but I want to see football played with smiles, bravery, and a sense of camaraderie. I want players to entertain our supporters, enjoy their football, and make lasting memories.
This group has the potential to grow together for the next 10–15 years. By adding experience where needed and continuing to offer chances to local talent, we’ll build something special—and something truly Wivenhoe.”
