Any hopes of winning the Reserve Division 1 title were dashed yesterday as Diss embarresed the Dragons 5-1. Wivenhoe were already disadvantaged coming into the game with only eleven players in the squad, however showed desire and belief in the first half playing in wide areas and when possible finding the feet of Oliver O'Hare. It was the Tangerines who against the run of play opened the scoring from a penalty awarded by the well placed official on the half way line. The blues felt hard done by from this decision but continued to play their game and had several opportunities to score but failed to trouble the goalkeeper on all occasions. Diss once again scored against the run of play this time capitalizing on a Ryan Gooch and Ben Fowler mistake Gooch over-hit a pass to Fowler who miscontrolled the ball allowing Diss to break, round Elliot Ringe and finish to make it 2-0. It was from this point that Wivenhoe lost the game and generally the plot as from kick off Adam Frost played the ball across his goal to Josh Day, the ball was intercepted by the Diss striker but Ben Fowler was on hand to thwart any danger.
HT Diss 2-0 Wivenhoe
Wivenhoe trundled in at half time dejected thinking how after such a strong first forty minutes they were two goals behind. It was here where Wivenhoe laid down and took a beating and proved the Diss manager right quoting that 'Wivenhoe didn't want it.' Three self inflicted mistakes lead to three well taken goals from Diss. More goals could have been score if the Diss centre forward managed to to stay onside more. A consolation goal scored from the spot by Dan Morgan, once again probably not a penalty but consistency at least.
FT Diss 5-1 Wivenhoe
Wivenhoe only have themselves to blame despite how well you play if you make mistakes you are liable to concede and despite how unfortunate you feel you must always fight to the end. On the upside the players should not feel dejected as on Saturday the reverse fixture is at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium and Jason Savage will be looking for a response from all.
